California enacted AB2246 in September 2016, which is known as the Pupil Suicide Prevention Law. This legislation mandates that all school districts in California teach suicide prevention awareness instruction to students in grades 7 through 12, inclusively. TUSD will comply with this law beginning in fall of the 2017-2018 school year, by teaching suicide prevention awareness to 8th and 10th graders who attend Tracy schools. Instruction is one hour and will teach students the signs of suicidal risk in themselves and others, as well as identify ways to get help.
A parent portal has been set up for all George Kelly School parents to access. On this portal, parents can:
Watch a video to learn about suicide prevention and the program 8th graders will receive.
Gain access to informational resources to support their children's mental health.
Learn about warning signs and risk factors.
Take a screener for adolescent depression.
